Reference & Encyclopedias

What's Here

This section contains the books I reach for when I need to look something up, verify information, or ground my work in broader context.

These are not always books I read straight through.
They are working references—the kind you keep within arm’s reach while planning rituals, teaching, researching, or fact-checking something you’ve heard repeated a little too confidently online.

In a world of fast takes and aesthetic witchcraft, reference books matter.

How I Use Reference Texts

Books in this section tend to answer questions like:

  • Where did this idea come from?

  • What does this symbol / term / practice actually mean?

  • Is this historically grounded, culturally specific, or modern invention?

  • What’s the broader context I might be missing?

These are the books I rely on when:

  • preparing educational content

  • supporting my own study

  • double-checking correspondences or terminology

  • slowing down misinformation before it spreads

They are tools for clarity, not authority.

Specialized Reference

  • Love Is in the Earth

  • Understanding Crystals

While crystal books often end up treated like lifestyle reading, these two function as true references in my practice.

A Note on Trust & Discernment

Reference books are not neutral just because they’re encyclopedic.

Every author brings:

  • cultural context

  • personal bias

  • and the limitations of their time

That’s why I use multiple references, not just one—and why I value books that are clear about what they are (history, folklore, modern practice, or synthesis).

A reference book doesn’t have to be perfect to be useful.
It has to be honest about what it’s doing.
