Core Witchcraft & Wicca

Witchcraft setup with candles, crystals, and an open book.

This section contains the foundational texts that shaped my understanding of Witchcraft as a spiritual practice, a personal discipline, and a lived path.

These are not trend-driven books.
They are works that helped me learn:

  • how Witchcraft functions as a religion and worldview

  • how ethics, responsibility, and agency matter

  • how practice evolves over time

Some of these books were formative early on.
Others became important later, once I had enough experience to engage them critically.

You’ll notice that I include context alongside praise. That’s intentional.
Core texts deserve respect—but not unquestioned authority.

How I Use “Core” Texts

Books in this section tend to answer questions like:

  • What is Witchcraft, really?

  • How does solitary practice work?

  • What role do ritual, devotion, and ethics play?

  • Where did modern Paganism come from?

These are books I return to when:

  • teaching

  • grounding my practice

  • reassessing assumptions

  • or helping newer practitioners find their footing

They are not all “how-to manuals.”
Some are philosophical. Some are historical. Some are deeply personal.

All of them matter.

Foundational & Solitary Practice

Theology, Philosophy & Modern Pagan Identity

Theology, Philosophy & Modern Pagan Identity

  • Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner - This was one of the very first books I picked up on my path, and despite it being written for Wiccans, I find it useful even today.

  • Living Wicca- Another wonderful Scott Cunningham book that I continue to reference.

  • True Magick

  • Solitary Witch - This is the only Silver Ravenwolf book I own, as there are MANY problematic things about her and her writing. I keep this as a reference for certain correspondences.

  • Drawing Down the Moon- Often referenced by many pagans, this is a book you will find on the shelf of many witches.

  • Witchery

  • Dark Goddess Craft

A Note on Discernment & Growth

You may notice that some authors appear here with caveats.

That’s deliberate.

My relationship with Witchcraft—and with these books—has changed over time.
What was useful at one stage may no longer be central now.
That doesn’t erase its value; it contextualizes it.

I include these works because:

  • they influenced modern Pagan practice

  • they are widely encountered by beginners

  • and they offer teachable moments around critical thinking

Wisdom isn’t about never changing your mind.
It’s about knowing why you did.
